If's and But's in MBA Admission

MBA admission process is quite different when compared to MS programs. The MBA admission process takes quite long time as it involves multiple GMAT attempts, working with essays such as state of purpose for each college and choosing the program. Serious students would start the process atleast one year ahead to get into the right program.

Below are the few guidelines to start the admission process to any US B-school:
  • Academic Record - Past academic record plays a major role in admission process and each university/college has its own minimum requirements. Since students can't change the previous academics, other application factors such as test scores, essays need to be strengthened
  • Admission Tests - Excellent GMAT score and TOEFL/IELTS helps to increase the chance of getting admission. Students can re-attempt the GMAT if one feels their score is less. Higher the scores higher the chances
  • Work Experience - Business schools generally look for two or more years of work experience but its not mandatory. Students need to prepare resume which includes professional experience like leadership positions held, scope of work, achievements
  • Essays - Business school essays play a major role in admission. This is the opportunity to market yourself and differentiate from others. Students need to take as much time as possible and work on the essays with genuine instances
  • Recommendation Letters - Recommendation letters from your previous employer, or professors with whom you worked is necessary while you apply. The letters from reputed persons you worked would increase your chance of admission
  • Interviews - Business schools conduct interview to understand you better and assess your abilities
